age 100, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away early Thursday morning, September 16, 2021 at the Wilmington Nursing & Rehab Center.
He was born May 8, 1921 in Wilmington, son of the late Harry S. & Elva L. (Wolary)Ward.
A 1939 Wilmington High School graduate, Wilbert was a WW II and Korean War US Army veteran, he was a life member of Wilmington American Legion Post #49 since 1950, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6710 in Wilmington and before that the VFW Post 9094 in Hillsboro, since 1953, Life member of the Amvets Post 61 Hillsboro, since 1998, life member of the 2nd Armored Division Association 1st American Division in Berlin after WWII. He faithfully served on the Highland County Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard since 1986. He was a member of Ada Friends Chapel.
Surviving are his grandsons- Jeff (Diana) Michael, Doug (Carrie) Michael, & Craig (Tara) Michael; good friends- Brenda Michael & Gary Shattuck; 6 great-grandchildren-Austin (Madison), Brandon, Shelby, Sydney, Dylan & Alyssa; and a great-great-grandson- Declan.
In addition to his parents, Wilbert was preceded in death by his sister Alice Wood & good friend- Forrest Michael.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, September 20, 2021 at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 West Locust Street at North Mulberry St, Wilmington, with Chaplain Robert Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, where the Wilmington American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard will accord full military honors. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of services on Monday, at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home.
