Jewell Downing

Jewell Ann Downing, age 72, of Huber Heights, Ohio formerly of Wilmington, passed away, Saturday morning, April 10, 2021 at Hospice of Dayton.

She was born April 14, 1948 in Maysville, Kentucky, daughter of the late James Eugene and Inez Irene (Mullenix) Adkins. On August 5, 1967 at St. Columkille Catholic Church in Wilmington she married John Thomas Downing, who passed away on May 3, 2008.

Jewell worked for Dr. Brooks and Dr. Fronista offices in the billing department for many years. She enjoyed going to the casino with her friends, sewing, knitting, and reading. Jewell loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Nicolle Downing of Englewood, granddaughter, Nicole Elizabeth Downing of Englewood, grandson, Nathaniel John Downing of Englewood, brother, Chris (Bonnie) Adkins of Rogers City, MI, sister, Janette (Steve) Conley of Wilmington, sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Schantz of Franklin, IN, special niece, Suzy Engleman, special nephew, George Schantz, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jewell was preceded in death by her daughter, Jenell Elaine Downing, sister, Joan Sanderson, and a brother, Francis Adkins.

Funeral Services will be held at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 W. Locus St. Wilmington, Friday, April 16, 2021 at 1:00 pm.  Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, Ohio.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
