Goldie Hammon

September 23, 1926 — November 24, 2022

Wilmington

On Thursday, November 24th, 2022, Goldie M Hammon passed away peacefully, at Cape May in Wilmington, Ohio.   Born September 23, 1926, in West Union, Ohio to the late Alfred and Clara Stewart, she was preceded in death by her sister Mabel Setty and her beloved husband of 41 years George D. Hammon.

After graduation from Adams Township in 1943, Goldie worked at Wright-Patterson AFB in the controller’s office as a bookkeeper.  In March 1947, she married George and began life as a military wife.  As well as assignments in Japan and Germany, where they loved experiencing the culture, customs and forming life-long friendships, they were stationed at posts throughout the US.

Goldie was a member of Wilmington United Methodist Church.  She was there an hour early to secure her parking space and in time to visit with friends as they arrived.  She volunteered at Clinton Memorial Hospital for 45 years.  She was a 64 year member of OES, Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls, worked with Shrine to provide toys for the burn hospital in Cincinnati. She was 4-H leader for Martinsville Hobby Timers and an active member of Yani.

Goldie was a letter writer.  She started each day writing to friends and family - just checking in - thinking of you.   She never forgot a special occasion.  For her 90th birthday, friends gave her boxes of cards and stamps, knowing she’d use every one.  She treasured her friends.  She sewed beautifully - everything from wedding gowns to doll clothes.  She was a voracious reader - non-fiction - biographies and history - stories of valor.  AND - she loved watching Jeopardy.

Surviving are her daughters, Melanie (Michael) Moseley of Robins, Iowa and Emily (Stephen) Payne of Wilmington, Ohio; grandchildren - Jennifer (Jonathan) Tiemeier, Cedar Rapids, IA; Christopher (Angela) Moseley, Litchfield Park, AZ; Lee (Jenna) Rose,  Glenburnie, Maryland; Nathaniel (Cassidy) Rose, Blanchester, Ohio; Lindsay (Dusty) Speelman, Clarksville, Ohio; Riley Payne, Wilmington, Ohio and Summer Payne, Hillsboro, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Payton and Wade Wells, Zoe Tiemeier, Ben and Allie Moseley, Aidan and Jaxson Rose, Gracie and Wyatt Rose and Addison Speelman.

Goldie was a kind and loving wife and mother. She championed her grand and great-grandchildren and was there to share in their celebrations, activities, and accomplishments.  When it came to praise, she said it’s not bragging when you’re telling the truth. We are so very thankful to have had her in our lives.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Cape May for their care, compassion and kindness.

Friends will be received Friday, December 2, 11:00 - 12:00 followed by song and prayer at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, Wilmington. Immediately following the service burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery. To sign the online guest book, visit www.edgingtonfunerlhomes.com.
