William (Bill) Sherman Wiget Jr., 78, of Wilmington, passed on Tuesday, January 27th at the Laurels of Blanchester, where he has resided after a long illness. Bill was born on March 30, 1947, the son of the late William Sherman Wiget Sr. and Bessie Fowler Wiget, and spent his early years on a farm in Lumberton, Ohio.
A 1965 graduate of Wilmington High School, Bill spent many years honing his craft as an auto and farm mechanic, owning and operating his first business, Bill’s Sunoco, right out of high school. He would go to become a prominent business owner in Wilmington, owning and operating Bill’s Farm and Auto Repair on West Main Street from 1982-2014. Bill gained a reputation for doing quality work at a fair price. He loved helping folks and getting to know his customers over the years.
Bill was a member of the New Antioch Church of Christ, but spent many Sunday mornings and evenings performing gospel music, singing as a featured performer at churches all around the area. His love of music started in his youth and he was a proud member of the Wilmingtones singing group and marching band performer in high school. Bill played with many of his friends in various bands over the years, most notably the Country Station band. Alongside his son, Nick, Bill formed Nick’s DJ Service, which allowed the two the opportunity to perform for many weddings, dances, parties, class reunions, etc., across the state and beyond.
For many years, Bill served as a member of the Clinton County Fair board and served on the Corn Festival Committee as a member of the Antique Power Club. His love for serving others led him to run for Clinton County Commissioner.
Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diana Lee (Gilmore) Wiget, a son, William Nicholas Wiget (Elizabeth Lydia Haynes-Wiget), a grandson, William Richard Wiget, a sister, Kathleen Corrao, and many relatives and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Larry Wiget. A special thank you to the staff of the Laurels of Blanchester for the many years of care and kindness.
