Susan Kay Young

Susan Kay "Susie Q" Young, age 72, of Kettering, Ohio formerly of Sardinia and Martinsville, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, January 6, 2026 at Kettering Health Main Campus.

She was born January 26, 1953 in Hillsboro, Ohio, daughter of Harold Arnold Sellman and Louis (Beets) Sellman Kirk. She was united into marriage to George R. Young on April 6, 1996 in Mowrystown, Ohio.

Susan had worked for Kroger and Walmart many years as a cashier and manager. She had attended the Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church. She loved to cook, fish, ride horses, and spend time with her family.

Surviving are her husband, George R. Young; mother, Louis Sellman Kirk of Greenfield; 3 children: Jerry Berry Jr. of Hillsboro, Lisa (Rodney) Helterbrand of Leesburg, and Nathaniel (Kaitlyn) Berry of Hillsboro; 8 grandchildren: Blake (Amy) Thackston, Dustin Caleb Berry, Seth Berry, Chase Berry, Bethany (Chad) Hart, Brett (Chelsea) Helterbrand, Cailey (Austin) Rau, and Lane Berry; 9 great-grandchildren: Paisleigh, Dax, Avery, Hudson, Gema, Maverick, Hiram, Kynleigh, and Zoey; 3 step-sons: Rob (Judy) Scarberry of Hillsboro, Erwin Scarberry of Martinsville, and Gary Scarberry; 7 step-grandchildren: Tereasa (Jason), Matthew (Amber), Amber, Erica, Amy, Lonnie, Jody, and Jacob; many step-great-grandchildren; 3 siblings: Harold "Bud" (Linda) Sellman, Mary (Jamie) Krebs, and Jamie (Kim) Sellman; and many nieces and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Harold Sellman; daughter-in-law, Heather Berry; step-son, James Scarberry; and a step-grandson, Timothy Scarberry.

Funeral Services will be held at Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, 138 E. Main St. Hillsboro, Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Lloyd Shoemaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Mowrystown Cemetery, Mowrystown, Ohio.

Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11:00 am. until the time of the services.
