Richard Howard Young, 77, of the Berrysville community, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, with his devoted wife by his side and surrounded by his beloved family.
Born on September 3,1947, in Adams County, Ohio, Richard was the son of Robert Nelson and Zelma Bird (Boehm) Young. In 1951, his family relocated to the Belfast community, where he later graduated from Belfast High School in 1965. In 1966, he married Anna E. Stamper in West Union, Ohio, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and dedication.
Richard worked for Gross Fiebel and Williamson Safe Companies in Hillsboro, Ohio for several years. Alongside his professional career, he also operated a Grade A Dairy Farm near Folsom, Ohio and maintained a Black Angus Cattle Operation near Belfast for many years. After retiring from farming in the late 1980s, he eventually made his home in Berrysville, where he devoted his time to his passion-improving and restoring everything he touched. His retirement years were spent collaborating on new construction and residential rehabilitation projects, ensuring that whatever he worked on was always left better than he found it.
Richard had a deep and unwavering love of family history, treasuring the stories of those who came before him. He could recall the smallest details of his past with remarkable clarity, sharing his memories with warmth and pride. An avid reader, he absorbed books like old friends, ever curious and eager to learn. He had a knack for finding humor in everyday moments and loved to laugh, bringing joy and lightheartedness to those around him. Even in his final days, his mind remained sharp, filled with wisdom, humor, and an enduring strength that defied his illness-a battle he faced fearlessly for ten years.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Anna, of Berrysville; his daughter, Shawna (Tom) Chambers of Washington Court House, Ohio; his son, Timothy "Timmy" (Rachel) Young of Wilmington, Ohio; and his adored grandchildren: Kaleb (Briana) Bledsoe of Ray, Ohio; Ashlynne Bledsoe of Kaneohe, Hawaii; Jaimon Young and his fiancee, Kayla McKenzie Freeman, of Mount Orab, Ohio, and Colton, Chance and Chandler Young of Wilmington, Ohio. His legacy lives on through his five great-grandchildren: Kyler, Karter, Khloe Bledsoe, Paisley, and Peyton Young.
He is also survived by his brother, Robert (Susan) Young; his niece, Amanda (Rodney) Gerhard; his nephew, Adam Young; and his grand-nephews Owen Gerhard and Noland Young, along with grand-nieces Emma and Samantha Young, all of Germantown, Kentucky. Richard also leaves behind many cherished brothers and sisters-in-law and their families.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Zelma Young, his beloved daughter, Melissa Young, and his half-sister, Mary Margaret Young.
Throughout his life, Richard was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His work ethic, perseverance, and boundless love for his family and their history will remain an enduring part of his memory. He will be remembered not only for the things he built but for the laughter he shared, the stories he passed down, and the unwavering wisdom he carried with him to the very end.
