Lt. Col. James C. Patrick Ret., age 76, of Kimbolton, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday March 1, 2023 at his home.
He was born August 19, 1946 in Wellston, OH, son of the late Carl Patrick and Mary (Barnes) Patrick.
James wed Janice Leichnam, in Hawaii on April 4th, 1967. They were married 42 years before her passing in 2009. At age 18, after graduating high school, Jim hitchhiked to the recruiting station in Batavia, OH to
enlist on Sept. 15,1964, where he began his 21 year career in the US Army. He was stationed with the 24th Infantry Division in Germany and did two combat tours with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. His military awards include: Four Bronze Stars, Two Purple Hearts, Air Medal, Three Meritorious Service Medals, Four Army Commendation Medals (one with “V” device), and Foreign Awards for Valor. During his military career, he was an Honors Graduate, a US Army Command and General Staff College Graduate, US Army Engineer (OCS and Advanced) School Graduate, a US Army Logistics Executive Development School Graduate, and a 24th Infantry Division NCO Academy graduate. He continued his education at the various colleges where he was stationed: - Bachelor of Science, Geology/Math- University of Mississippi - Master of Science, Acquisition Management- Florida Institute of Technology. He was also an Associate Professor of Economics, University of Kentucky (evenings). He retired from the Army on Oct. 31, 1985 at age 39. Jim then worked for the Houston Transit Authority in Houston, TX from 1988- 2005. In 2005, Jim retired for the 2nd time and spent his time going to the movies with his wife, fishing with his neighbor, enjoying the lake house at Lake Livingston, TX. After Janice’s passing, he moved to Kimbolton, Ohio where he enjoyed the country life by bird watching, working on projects for his property and spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mary, his beloved wife, Janice (Leichnam) Patrick, and his siblings Joyce Brewer, Carolyn Purdin, Sunny Vinton Patrick, and Patricia Ann Boldman. Also he was preceed in the death by his grandparents, Homer and Minnie Patrick of Buford.
James is survived by his siblings, Shirley Ann Hatten, Carl Junior Patrick and Connie Jane Spires, His children, James L. Patrick, Jennifer (Patrick) Meyer, four grandsons, James Kyle Patrick, Charles Hunter Patrick, Sean Conner Patrick and Collin James Patrick, along with Uncles, Aunts and lots of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at Edgington Funeral Home, 17 E. Main St. Mowrystown, Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Kraig Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Mowrystown Cemetery, Mowrystown, Ohio where the U.S. Army and the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
