David T. Sipe

November 18, 1935 - October 7, 2025

David T. Sipe, 89, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away peacefully Surrounded by family on Tuesday afternoon, October 7, 2025, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio.

He was born on November 18, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of the late John Marvin and Alice Erma (Thacher) Sipe. On October 16, 1965, while serving in Germany, he married Barbara Lee Sipe, who preceded him in death on June 6, 2024. They shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.

David was a devout Christian and lifelong follower of Jesus. He was a devoted husband, a great father, and a man whose faith guided every part of his life.

A longtime member of the Martinsville United Methodist Church, David lived by his favorite saying: “If God takes you to it, God will take you through it.”

He proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Army, including a tour in Vietnam from October 1969 to October 1970, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and numerous combat citations. Following his military service, he continued to lead and mentor others as Scoutmaster of Troop 149, sponsored by the Martinsville Lions Club, for over 20 years, and as Cubmaster of Pack 149 for three of those years.

David was deeply involved in his community as a member of the Wilmington American Legion Post #49-where he served as Rifle Commander (Caller) on the Memorial Squad-as well as a member of the Martinsville Lions Club for 25 years, and a life member of both the VFW and DAV. He also found joy in woodcarving with the Clinton County Wood Carvers, a group he affectionately referred to as “just a bunch of turkeys.”

A proud Mayflower descendant and member of the John Howland Society, David and his beloved wife Barbara shared a love of travel, spending many happy years exploring Texas and the rest of the United States together in their travel trailer.

Children and grandchildren:

Mark (Kathy) Sipe of Liberty Township, OH; David T. (Sherlee) Sipe II of Houston, TX; and Alice C.
