Anthony Richard Leonard

Anthony Richard "Dick" Leonard,

age 96, passed peacefully August 30, 2025 at his home in New Vienna Ohio holding the hand of his loving wife Joan. Anthony comes from a lineage of hard working family men of Trenton New Jersey.

Anthony was a graduate of Trenton Catholic.

Before he devoted his entire heart and soul to being a husband and father, Anthony was active in football, baseball, bowling, hunting, fishing and crabbing in the Bay of Toms River New Jersey.

Anthony defined what is was to be a husband, father, grandfather and family man. He was a strong silent leader of the family which embodied his entire reason for living day to day filled with love and a strong silent guidance of how to love strongly, deeply, joyfully and always forgiving. He worked until he was 80 years old at which time he moved from Yardville New Jersey to join his daughter Barbara and son-in-law David in New Vienna Ohio to enjoy the simple things in life; leaf peeping, country drives, local festivals, watching his great granddaughters Sophia and Jena Melleby play in his front yard, planting his favorite Knock-Out Rose bushes, and sharing stories and never ending wisdom of his heart and soul that remained extremely sharp, brilliant and knowledgeable.

Anthony was drafted in to the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany for two and a half years. He could tell stories in great detail of his military duty and also exploring Europe which he told as though they happened the previous day. Everyone who came in contact with Anthony was amazed at his impeccable memory, kind face, sparkling blue eyes and were astounded he was 96 as he didn't look a day over 60.

Anthony was preceded in death by his father Anthony Leonard, mother Anna (Shimski) Leonard, Sister Lorraine (Leonard) Gilliland, Brother Thomas Leonard, Son Richard Charles Leonard, Daughter Heleyne Ann (Leonard) Zimpleman and Grandson Matthew Zimpleman.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years Joan Helen (DeNito) Leonard, Barbara Ann (Leonard) Melleby and her husband David James Melleby, grandsons Mark Melleby, Brian Melleby, Christopher Schuh, Richard Leonard, Great Grandson Matthew Zimpleman and several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

Services were private with Anthony's immediate family by his side sharing deep love, stories and admiration. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton New Jersey. The Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, Wilmington has been entrusted with the arrangements.
