Roberta Jane (Woodmansee) NaylorOctober 26, 1943 ~ September 2, 2017 (age 73)
Roberta Jane Woodmansee Naylor, 73, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed September 2, 2017, at her home after a battle with cancer, enduring it with great faith, grace, and dignity. She was surrounded by her family and friends and the wonderful care of Clinton County Community Care Hospice.
Roberta was born October 26, 1943, at Hillsboro, Ohio, to the late Floyd Carey Woodmansee and Helen Roberta Michael Woodmansee.
She was a 1961 graduate of Simon Kenton High School, Lees Creek, Ohio, and a 1965 graduate of The Ohio State University with a BS in Business Education. She had additional studies at Xavier University, University of Cincinnati, and Wilmington College. Roberta taught for 15 years at Newark City Schools, Newark, Ohio, and 18 years at East Clinton High School in Lees Creek, Ohio. She was the secretary/treasurer of Naylor’s Furniture, Inc., at the time of her death.
Roberta served as President of the Nike Center Administrative Board in Clinton County for four terms. As a member of the Wilmington Area Adapted Soccer Program Committee she received the Special Achievement Award at the Hopewell Exceptional Achievement Banquet. She served on the Hopewell Special Education Regional Resource Center Parent Advisory Board and the Hopewell Governing Board. She diligently worked to promote awareness and acceptance of special need individuals in our society. In 2013 Roberta was selected as an Outstanding Woman of Clinton County.
She was a member of the Wilmington Church of Christ and a past volunteer of Our Father’s Kitchen and Special Olympics. She was also a member of Kiwanis International, Wilmington Republican Women’s Club, Clinton County Retired Teachers Association, and the Ohio Farm Bureau. She was a former member of The Job’s Daughters, a Past Matron of Leesburg Chapter No. 57 O.E.S. and a 56 year member of the Hillsboro Chapter No. 441 O.E.S. Roberta was an accomplished pianist and served as organist for the Highland United Methodist Church for several years.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father-in law, Bradford and Grace Naylor; her brother-in-law, William Naylor, and two sisters-in-law, Jane Naylor and Shirley Naylor. Survivors include her husband of 35 years, James H. Naylor, whom she married, June 27, 1982; her beloved sons: Tony and daughter-in-law, Jill Henry Naylor and Tim Naylor; her grandchildren: Ava and Jett Naylor, all of Wilmington. Also surviving are her sister, Diana, and brother-in-law, Douglas A. McKay of Leesburg, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Bradford Naylor Jr, Robert and Ethel Naylor, and John and Kay Naylor, all of Lynchburg. In addition she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews and many special cousins and friends too numerous to mention.
The visitation is at Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 W. Locust St., Friday, September 8, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the church on Saturday, Sept. 9, with Dale McCammish presiding. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, State Route 28, Highland, Ohio.
